What To Do After You Find Your Wedding Gown
Without a doubt, finding the perfect wedding gown ranks high on every bride’s to do list. Finding the gown is only the first step; then it is time to find bridesmaid dresses and your accessories. These are the steps to take after you have selected your bridal gown.
Hit the ground running by starting the hunt for your bridesmaid dresses right away. It often looks nice if the bridesmaid dresses share a feature with the bridal gown, such as a bow at the waist. There is certainly no rule that your bridesmaids have to wear dresses that are cut like your gown, but they should have a consistent general style. Allow lots of time to search for just the right thing. For a lot of weddings, finding the wedding dress is a snap compared to bridesmaid dress shopping!
Bridal shoes are next on your to do list. Don’t show up to your initial dress fitting appointment without shoes, because then they can’t hem the dress. It is a good idea to shop for shoes with a swatch of your bridal gown in hand. Or you can opt for shoes that do not match at all, such as ones in silver, gold, pale blue, or even red. If you choose colorful shoes, it would be great to pick out some other accessories in the same hue, like red crystal heart earrings to match scarlet shoes.
Looking for the perfect underpinnings is next. When you wear the right undergarments, it will actually make your dress look better. The wrong ones, however, will ruin the line of the gown with bumpy lace, visible lines, or a color that shows through. A good rule of thumb is that the undergarments should match your skin tone, rather than the color of your wedding dress. The fuller and more embellished the gown, the fancier the undergarments can be. Sleek dresses call for completely seamless undergarments.
Now comes the part every bride loves: shopping for bridal jewelry! A bride usually has a pendant or strand, coordinating earrings, possibly a bracelet, and something pretty to wear in her hair. Having selected your bridal gown already will make it much easier to find jewelry to match. If your gown is covered with glittering crystals, a pair of Swarovski crystal heart earrings would be gorgeous. An ivory wedding dress is lovely with creamy pearl jewelry. Brides generally select their jewelry and then the headpiece, because the headpiece needs to work well with the rest of the bridal jewelry. Try everything on together to make sure that the headpiece neither overpowers your bridal jewelry nor competes with it. If you feel like a tiara will fight with your necklace, opt for hairpins or a jeweled comb in the back of your hair instead. Go ahead and pick your bridal veil at this time also.
Remember to schedule your dress fittings! Your bridal salon may have a seamstress on staff or you may need to go elsewhere. Either way, people book up early, so schedule your appointments well before your wedding gown order even arrives. Most brides will need about three gown fittings, and the last one should be very close to the wedding date. Try on all of your wedding accessories with your dress at the final fitting to make sure that the total package is just as you envisioned. You will be sure to feel incredible on your wedding day!
